In January 2025, China's National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Finance introduced policies aimed at increasing demand for stainless steel through equipment upgrades and consumer goods processing. These measures target key industries and expand recycling initiatives, with stainless steel consumption projected to grow by 3.5% in 2025 to reach 27.07 million tonnes.
The policy provides stronger support than in 2024, especially for household appliances. Demand for stainless steel in washing machines, televisions, refrigerators and air conditioners grew 21.89% in 2024 and is expected to grow another 9.96% in 2025 to 3.38 million tons.
The initiatives also cover electronics, security equipment and agriculture, with a focus on high-tech, smart and environmentally friendly applications. Processing programs in heavy industry stimulate modernization and sustainable use of materials. As economic conditions improve, demand for stainless steel offers opportunities for steady growth, strengthening its role in various industries.
