The WTO Committee on Safeguards has announced the final positive decision of Egypt regarding the import of hot-rolled sheet. After analyzing trade data for the period from January 2021 to December 2024, the Egyptian authorities recommended the introduction of a three-year tariff based on the CIF value.
The VAT rate starts at 13.6% (minimum 3673 Egyptian pounds/ton) for the first period from 14 September 2025 to 13 September 2026, decreases to 13% (minimum 3511 Egyptian pounds/ton) for the second period from 14 September 2026 to 13 September 2027 and to 12.5% (minimum 3376 Egyptian pounds/ton) for the third period from 14 September 2027 to 13 September 2028.
Goods falling under CN codes VED include: 7208.10, 7208.25, 7208.26, 7208.27, 7208.36, 7208.37, 7208.38, 7208.39. 7208.40, 7208.51, 7208.52, 7208.53, 7208.54, 7208.90, 7211.14, 7211.19, 7225.30, 7225.40, 7226.91 и 7226.99. Hot-rolled flat steel products with a thickness of more than 20 mm and a width of more than 1600 mm are exempt from this measure.
